Monday 8th Feb the Polish death metal band Decapitated (signed to Nuclear Blast), supported by Kataklysm and Man Must Die will be performing at Islington 02 Academy. I will be there to photograph this great event and If time allows shoot this band prior to taking the stage for some needed fresh promotional images.
The band was hit with tragedy when their tour van crashed in Russia causing Witold “Vitek” Kieltyka the most promising drummer in the genre to suffer head injuries causing death at the age of 23 and Covan the vocalists to be injured and put into a coma; his situation has not improved much and he is still in bed and unable to function on his own. After a 2 year break Wacek “Vogg” Kieltyka, guitarist & founding member of the band states that it is time to begin touring again with new members that were revealed in December ’09. It has been the hardest decision he has had to make, to move on without his brother and drummer but he believes that Vitek would have wanted the band to continue.
Have been asked by Shirley Swain from Andover Sound to accompany her to the Stereophonics gig this Monday 25th at Portsmouth Guildhall. Take live photos and joining her Interview with the boys and take some snaps. Although mainly a Metal fan these days this band have been firm favourites since i was around 15 so this will be an incredible experience. Great early work and the new material is much better than I would’ve expected from a band thats been around this long. The new singles are fantastic and looking forward to hearing the whole show, hoping there will will be a good mix of new and old.
Last time I went to see them myself and some friends travelled all the way from Hampshire to Cardiff to see their sold out UK tour at the huge Millennium Stadium supported by Feeder and Ocean Colour Scene.
Recently shot the bands ‘Deaf Havana’ + ‘Burn The Fleet’ at my local venue. These guys were great and blew the sold out crowd away. First time seeing both of these bands live and previously not heard to much of their work. Burn The Fleet played a great aggressive set, getting the crowd involved and receiving a great rapport. Deaf Havana then came on strong and pushed there pop/punk/hardcore straight at the crowd who instantly sang every lyric straight back at them. This gig involved stage invasions and crowd surfing and an unexpected surprise: a boy from the crowd ‘Scott Claessens’ told them he could drum there songs so Deaf Havana invited him to the stage to prove it and he played a whole tune perfectly.
This gig was a great overall atmosphere and a pleasant surprise to myself as i was not that knowledgeable to most of their material.
Deaf Havana pics up now, Burn the Fleet pics to come soon
Shot the reformation of Skunk Anansie at Brixton 26th November. As a huge fan this was a great experience being able to get so close to this incredible band and the fantastic Skin. At times i wasn’t concentrating on the photography as i was in such awe of her voice and the general performance of the band including her excentric customes.
Thank you to John Penfound, Mark (drummer) and Leigh for this opertunity and hope you all like the final images, i have a few more to sort through, but hope you like the current progression 🙂

This Saturday 12th Sep the event of ‘Crispystock’ will be occurring in Andover, Hampshire at ‘The Lights’ Venue by the College. This has become an annual event celebrating the life of Christopher Vearncombe (nicknamed ‘Crispy’).
Crispy was the UK Air Guitar Champion in 2005 and was 4 days away from returning to defend his crown. Tragically he was hit by a vehicle in Durban, South Africa and was killed. This was only a few years ago at the age of 25. In his memory this event is a day of live music promoting local talent as Crispy was very passionate about this and was very involved with the scene. The event has grown in popularity, starting from all of his friends and locals attending, from the Venue changing to accomodate a wider variety of the public to join in and donate to the ‘Headway’ charity. This charity helps the survivors of brain injury lead their day to day lives. The event donates all proceeds to this charity and everyone involved in this large family of friends all do their upmost to contribute and to encourage others.
Everyone can donate though the internet at www.crispystock.com please visit this site and help a very worthy charity. Also at this website the details of the charity and the event can be found, including posters for this years band listings and previous years.
If you are local please join this great day out bringing a positive message to the community about friends and family sticking together through adversity. Have fun and celebrate to a local hero.
